About This Report
This is Dominion’s fifth annual Citizenship & Sustainability Report, which highlights our social, economic and environmental performance in 2011 and selected activities in the first quarter of 2012. To conserve resources and reduce our environmental impact, we chose to forego a printed report and have replaced it with an online “Build A Report” feature that gives readers a customizable print option. A new survey also has been added to provide stakeholders with another means of engaging with us and offering feedback.
Organization and Process
The contents of this report are organized to address topics of material interest to key stakeholder groups and to our company and industry. Data collection and presentation are based on input received from internal subject matter experts and from external stakeholders via our online mailbox. Global Reporting Initiative G3 Guidelines also provided valuable guidance, with particular attention paid to utility sector-specific indicators. Report content was thoroughly reviewed by internal teams and senior company management to ensure its accuracy and reliability. We did not seek external assurance for the report. Our reporting process continues to evolve as we learn from experience, best practices and input from stakeholders.
Scope and Guidance
Reporting is structured on a corporate basis and all data is aggregated by means of internal tracking and measurement systems. Reporting on topics of material interest to stakeholders has been expanded in the areas of public policy, public health and safety, and water and electricity use at company facilities. New environmental performance indicators have been added to expand the range of our reporting. These metrics can be found in the Environment section of the report and in the 5-Year Performance Summary.
